Circumstances around death of young Deputy Sheriff under investigation
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Department of Law Enforcement (DLE) officials reported the death of a Deputy Sheriff who was a recent Law Enforcement Recruit Class graduate.
In a news release Monday, the department said Jordan J. Kagehiro’s body was recently found at his home. Details surrounding his death were unclear and are under investigation by Honolulu Police.
DLE said Deputy Kagehiro graduated from the extensive training course on Dec. 15, 2023, saying he exemplified leadership and dedication throughout. They added he was admired by his peers and led by example.
“The department and our community has lost a great young Deputy Sheriff and he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Deputy Kagehiro’s family, loved ones and friends, as well as members of the department and law enforcement agencies for this loss of such a promising officer,” said DLE Director Jordan Lowe.
After his graduation, he was assigned to the Central Patrol, which covers Downtown Honolulu.
DLE added that he had passion for law enforcement and a promising career with the department ahead. They also said he was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.
It is not known if foul play is suspected in this case. It is being handled as an unattended death investigation, HPD said.
