HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The number of steps you take every day could lead to a reduction in depression symptoms, according to a news tudy.

The study was published Monday in the journal Jama Network Open.

It found a higher daily step count is associated with fewer depressive symptoms and taking just a thousand more steps a day could reduce your risk of depression.

Comparatively, those who walked less than 5,000 steps per day were observed to have sad symptoms.

Over 96,000 adults participated throughout the course of over 30 observational studies.

The study’s lead author said it’s more evidence that being active is an effective strategy for preventing depression.
