Future of Oahu’s two Party City locations announced
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The fate of Oahu’s two Party City locations has been announced in light of their parent company’s recent bankruptcy and liquidation.
Party City of Hawaii Inc., an independently owned and operated Party City franchisee, announced they will consolidate the Waipahu store into its Nimitz location.
The Waipahu store, located on the grounds of the Waikele Outlets, will close on Jan. 18. Store officials cited both an expiring lease, along with short-term supply chain issues caused by the bankruptcy, for the closure.
“The decision to close our Waipahu store ensures that Party City of Hawaii has the stability to focus on its short-term infrastructure, including adopting a new inventory and sales system, and, most importantly, developing a new party goods supply chain to meet the needs of our Hawaii customers,” said Andrew Shum, Vice President of Operations.
“Party City Holdco’s announcement to terminate its store and wholesale operations provides us with the opportunity to reshape our operations, better collaborate with local businesses and source different products tailored to our community to better serve the people of Hawaii,” Shum added.
All 15 Waipahu employees have been offered positions at the Nimitz store, and management says they will not be terminating anyone.
Management says they are hopeful they will be able to reopen a store in West Oahu in the future.
