Pedestrian dies from injuries after crash on Nimitz Highway
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle on Nimitz Highway early Friday morning has died.
The crash occurred at around 4:45 a.m. at the Valkenburgh Street intersection.
According to police, a woman, 60, was crossing the highway in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle heading eastbound.
She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The medical examiner notified police Sunday that she died from her injuries.
The driver, a 55-year-old woman, was not hurt and remained at the scene.
Police said speed may have been a factor in the crash. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors.
Police shut down the eastbound lanes of Nimitz Highway to investigate and clear the scene.
Officials say this is the third traffic fatality of 2025 compared to one at this time last year.
