HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawaii officially welcomed Wendy Hensel as its new president Tuesday.

A ceremony was held at UH West Oahu.

It also marked the start of Hensel’s tour of all of the university’s campuses and education centers.

Next week, she will be visiting the UH Manoa campus on Jan. 22 and 23. View her full schedule here.

Hensel says the visits are about listening, learning, and building connections to help shape her leadership at UH.

“I’m beyond excited to make the personal connections to hear the stories, to really understand the place and the aina and the ohana,” Hensel said.

Hensel started her presidency on Jan. 1.

She was elected unanimously by the UH’s Board of Regents last October, and is the 16th president of the state’s public university.

Hensel previously served as executive vice chancellor and provost for the City University of New York (CUNY), a 25-campus system that serves 230,000 students.
