First Alert Forecast: Thunderstorms swamping parts of the state, drier conditions expected over the weekend

Severe thunderstorm warning and flash flood warning in effect for Maui Friday morning as heavy rains and thunderstorms drench the island.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A thunderstorm is swamping Maui this morning, it will be slowly moving west and weakening.

A severe thunderstorm warning and flash flood warning are in effect for Maui as heavy rain and thunderstorms drench the island.

The severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 5:30 a.m. Friday and the flash flood warning is posted until 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Enhanced showers will move along windward and mauka areas with down trend Friday, except for the Kona slopes of the Big Island.

Generally fair weather is expected over the weekend, but some showery weather conditions may linger around windward Big Island and east Maui through Saturday, especially during the overnight and early morning hours.

A drier more typical trade wind pattern is expected Sunday into the first half of next week.

A High Surf Advisory remains in effect for most north and west facing shores through 6 a.m. Friday. A below advisory level NW swell is due over the weekend with bigger swells due next week.

East shores will rise over the weekend. A sizeable south swell is expected late next week.
