PEARL CITY (HawaiiNewsNow) - A power outage in Pearl City has prompted the closure of Pearl City High’s campus Tuesday morning, the state Department of Education said.

Over 900 customers in the Pearl City, Pearlridge and Waimalu areas lost power around 6:30 a.m.

At 8:50 a.m., HECO said electricity came back on for majority of customers and roughly 20 are still without power.

The DOE said the school was unable to provide student meal service without electricity. All staff and families were notified of the closure.

All other HIDOE schools remained open as scheduled.

Officials said the outage was caused by a crash on Waimano Home Road that downed a utility pole.

Power is estimated to be fully restored by 3:30 p.m.

HECO said the outage was not part of its Public Safety Power Shutoff.
