HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After 26 years with the Honolulu Police Department, and seven years coordinating CrimeStoppers Honolulu, Sgt. Chris Kim is set to retire.

His last day is Jan. 31.

“I just want to thank everybody, thank you to the police department, the media, and especially the community for all the years of support,” Kim said, “and for supporting our program and just getting involved.”

Kim entered the Ke Kula Makai Police Academy in November 1998 after graduating from the Honolulu Community College.

Kim was honored as the CrimeStoppers USA National Coordinator of the Year in 2019.

In 2024, Kim was inducted into the Kaimuki High School Hall of Honor in recognition of his contributions to community safety.

“It’s been a wonderful journey, straight out of college, this is what I’ve done pretty much my entire adult life, and it’s been a huge blessing,” Kim said.

Throughout his career, Kim worked in the patrol division and criminal investigations before being named coordinator of CrimeStoppers Honolulu in August 2017.

Kim will be succeeded by Sgt. Edmund Ho, a 12-year department veteran who is currently a detective with the Criminal Investigation Division.

CrimeStoppers Honolulu is a nonprofit organization founded in 1981 as a separate entity from HPD that solicits and facilitates anonymous information helpful to law enforcement to reduce crime.
