Round one of 2025 Sony Open underway at Waialae Country Club
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Despite early forecasts for rain, it turned into a beautiful day for golf.
The 2025 Sony Open teed off at Waialae Country Club.
As for the local golfers, they started their rounds in the afternoon with Kaimuki’s Chan Kim coming into the clubhouse finishing 4-under par.
“I made a good save on 17, which kind of kept the momentum going, Yeah, I mean, I it didn’t feel like a fast start, but I just kind of had to hang in there and you know, it was windy,” Kim said following his round. “So I knew the birdie opportunities would come and if I could take advantage of those, I knew i’d be okay.”
Meanwhile, Seabury Hall’s Tyler Loree made his first start in a PGA tour event.
“I had a lot of fun out there today, I was really nervous to start off a few rocky shots here and there, but we came back” Loree said. “Had a good process all day, like that’s what my caddy told me, we just kept having good process.”
The moment, he teed off here at Waialae Country Club was one he won’t soon forget.
The leader after one round is split in a five-way tie including England’s Harry Hall, who shot a career best 10 birdies in round.
Round two of the Sony Open begins on Friday.
