Thousands in tip raised for pizza delivery driver who worked through snowstorm
BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WRTV) - After an Indiana pizza delivery driver went viral for making a delivery in a snowstorm for only a $2 tip, total strangers stepped up to serve him a slice of generosity.
Connor Stephanoff, a delivery driver for Rock Star Pizza, makes sure his customers get their food.
“Any condition, anytime, anywhere – you will get your pizza,” he said.
That mentality has him gaining TikTok fans after Officer Richard Craig spotted Stephanoff trekking through a snowstorm last Friday in Brownsburg, Indiana. The road Stephanoff needed to take for his delivery was closed, so he walked nearly half a mile in sweats and tennis shoes.
“Look at this man. This man walked through hell and high water to deliver a pizza,” said Craig in a video he posted to TikTok. “That’s dedication, man.”
Stephanoff told the officer he got a $2 tip for his delivery. That news pushed Craig to offer the driver $15 of his own money, which he says he still didn’t feel was enough.
“Absolutely insane. Do better, folks,” said Craig in the video.
The officer then shared Stephanoff’s story on TikTok and GoFundMe, asking his 160,000 followers to step up, as well. In just a few days, the generous tips poured in from strangers, and the original $500 goal more than tripled. As of Wednesday night, more than $7,500 had been raised.
“I still don’t believe it’s real, but it is,” Stephanoff said.
Ron Matthews, the owner of Rock Star Pizza, says Stephanoff is well deserving of the attention. He says he told his employees they didn’t have to deliver that day, but Stephanoff wanted to work.
“He wasn’t here in the restaurant. He had no idea that people were watching him, but he got out, walked it to the house and came back without any expectations,” Matthews said.
Stephanoff says he didn’t grow up in the best household. He was taken by Child Protective Services and lived with other family members.
“Everyone is going through it tough. Everyone has it. It could be you. It could be the delivery driver. But at the end of the day, we’re all people. We all got to grow up and toughen up. Just be nice to the next person,” he said.
Stephanoff now lives with his grandmother and helps with her bills. He says he’s grateful he can help her a little more this time of the year.
