Pro and rookie golfers alike get ready to hit the green at 2025 Sony Open
KAHALA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Sony Open is back on Oahu this week, bringing world-class golf to Waialae Country Club in Kahala.
Kahala Avenue is the epicenter of pro golf festivities this week for the 2025 Sony Open in Hawaii.
Tournament organizers are keeping a close eye on the forecast with periodic heavy rain possible but are optimistic the event tees off smoothly. Even in soggy conditions, there’s no such thing as a bad day of golf
Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to attend the event.

The Sony is the PGA’s first full-field event of the season with 144 top-ranked pros, seasoned veterans, past tournament champions and talent rookies.
They’re all vying for the $8.7 million purse, with the winner collecting $1.566 million.

Among the top golfers is 2025 Sentry Winner Hideki Matsuyama, 32. He set the bar high at the season opener, breaking a PGA TOUR record with his 35-under score at The Sentry tournament in Kapalua, Maui.
There’s a list of Hawaii teens set to take on the PGA pros this weekend.
One of the TOUR rookies starting his season at the Sony Open is Ricky Castillo who has family flying in from Kauai, another Hawaii player in the field is Seabury Hall senior Tyler Loree. Maui boy Tyler Loree, 17, will tee off with the rest of the field in Round 1 of the competition.
PGA TOUR Pro and Kaimuki High School grad Chan Kim is also returning to Waialae.
