Woman who lost her home in California wildfires helps rescue injured dog and owl

ALTADENA, Calif. (Gray News) - A woman who lost her home in the Los Angeles wildfires rescued an injured dog and owl while checking out what was left of her property.
Joane De La Torre and her friend, Lauren Wong, returned to her property in Altadena, California, on Jan. 10 to see what was left of her home after the Eaton Fire. There, they encountered an unknown dog on her property who had suffered burns in the fire.
De La Torre and Wong immediately began working to get the dog to safety and, along with several others, helped transport the dog to Pasadena Humane.
Wong posted videos of the dog, who they later learned was named Canelo, on TikTok and received several messages from Canelo’s potential owner. She informed the person that Canelo was at Pasadena Humane.
According to a Newsweek report, Canelo was reunited with his owner but will remain at the shelter for a few more weeks while he recovers.
De La Torre and Wong also discovered an injured owl on a neighboring property and worked to bring it to safety. De La Torre posted a video of the owl in a car. The owl appears to be in a blanket with burns all over its body. They reportedly took the owl to a shelter for care.
