Cat missing for months found 700 miles from home, family says
LONDONDERRY, New Hampshire (WMUR) – A cat who went missing in New Hampshire turned up more than 700 miles away from home.
The Ambler family said their cat Kumiko was last seen months ago in Londonderry, New Hampshire.
However, the family recently received a surprising call from someone who said their cat had been found in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
They said they have no idea how she ended up there.
A local shelter scanned the cat for a microchip and was able to locate her family.
After being reunited with her, the Amblers said their furry loved one is settling back into life at home.
Paul Ambler said this is a good reminder of the importance of microchipping your pets.
“I want to try to increase your awareness,” he said. “So if people are, like, well-meaning and like, ‘Oh, we found a stray, can we keep it mom and dad?’ Sure. But let’s bring it to a vet and scan it first, because it might have torn its collar off, which those little banana heads do on the regular, and it might actually belong to somebody that desperately wants it back.”
