Used car salesman accused of taking customers' payments but not handing over car titles
FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF/Gray News) – A used car salesman in South Carolina is accused of taking money from customers but failing to turn over proper documentation.
On Monday, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division arrested 42-year-old Olin Altman for obtaining goods under false pretenses.
Altman allegedly took multiple forms of payment from customers while operating the Lowcountry Truck & Auto used car dealership between March 16 and June 12, 2024, totaling more than $10,000.
After taking payment from the customers, the arrest report states that Altman intended to defraud the customers by failing to pay off the vehicle lienholder and then failing to provide the customers with a car title within 45 days.
Altman was booked into the Florence County Detention Center but has since been released on a $25,000 bond.
Altman’s case will be prosecuted by the 12th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
