HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The HNN First Alert Weather Team has canceled the First Alert Weather Day that had been effect Saturday for Hawaii Island.

While there are more stable conditions returning statewide, there’s still enough moisture and instability near the eastern end of the island chain for a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms Saturday over the Kona side of the island.

This system triggered severe thunderstorms over Maui early Friday morning with hail and strong winds of 50 miles per hour or stronger.

It also brought a dusting of snow to the summit areas of Haleakala, along with blustery winds and icy roads down to the 6,000 foot elevation.

Some heavier thunderstorms also developed over Hawaii Island Friday afternoon as the system continued eastward.
